Lynher Dairies, owned by Catherine Mead OBE, is home to Cornish Yarg, Cornish Kern and Stithians. Every single truckle comes from the small, rural dairy in mid Cornwall. We’ve been wrapping our Yargs in nettle leaves since the 1980s, introducing the wild garlic and Stithians recipes as the millennium changed. In the next ten years, we began to develop a recipe for our new cheese, Cornish Kern. It started to win top awards in 2013 so we knew we were onto something.
In 2017, Kern won Supreme Champion at the World Cheese Awards. Gongs don’t come much higher than that! This secured our position as one of the top artisan cheese producers in the world. Following this, as chair of the Specialist Cheese Association and chair of the Cornwall Food Foundation, Lynher Dairies’ owner Catherine Mead OBE was awarded in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2019. Catherine was also chosen by HRH Prince of Wales on his 70th birthday to be one of his top ten Countryside Champions.
We now sell Yargs and Stithians in a range of sizes direct from our dairy in Cornwall. All three cheeses – Yarg, Stithians and Kern – are sold in delis, farm shops and supermarkets throughout the UK.
